The Mac alternative to KioWare
KioWare is Windows, Android and Linux, not macOS.
If you’re standing up a kiosk on a Mac and looked at KioWare, you hit a wall fast: KioWare runs on Windows, Android, Linux and ChromeOS, but not macOS. So on a Mac mini, iMac or MacBook, KioWare simply isn’t an option, and you need a native tool.
To be fair to KioWare: it’s a serious product for fleets. If you’re running many Windows or Android kiosks and need centralized management, remote monitoring and per-device policies, its Server / KioCloud side is genuinely strong. That’s a different job from “one Mac showing one website,” and it’s priced and built accordingly.
Canned Web, the native Mac option
Canned Web does one thing: it seals a Mac to a single website. Enter a URL, hold ⌘⇧S, and the Mac is locked fullscreen to that site, Spotlight, Cmd-Tab, Cmd-Q and screenshots blocked, navigation locked to your domain, auto-start back into the site after a reboot, and the only way out is your exit password. No MDM, no configuration profiles, no server, no subscription. It’s a one-time €49 per machine with a 14-day free trial.
| Canned Web | KioWare | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | macOS 14+ (Apple Silicon or Intel) | Windows, Android, Linux, ChromeOS, no macOS |
| Pricing | One-time €49 per machine, updates included | Per-device tiers (Lite/Basic/Full), plus Server for fleets |
| Setup | Install, enter a URL, hold a shortcut to seal | Per-device install + configuration; Server/KioCloud for central management |
| Fleet management | None, built for one machine, one site | Yes, KioWare Server / KioCloud |
| MDM required | No | No (Server handles fleets) |
| Best for | A Mac (or a few) showing one website | Large Windows / Android kiosk fleets |
Short version: if you’re on Windows or need central fleet management, KioWare is the right tool. If you’re on a Mac and want a simple, one-time, escape-proof lockdown, that’s Canned Web.
